Arsene Wenger insists that Arsenal still has an opportunity to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, in spite of losing to Bayern Munich 5-1. However, Wenger reminded us of Paris Saint-Germain’s shock 4-0 win versus Barcelona as evidence that an almost impossible comeback is not entirely out of the question.
The manager told ESPN that what he expects is for the team to go out there with a mix of lucid rage. Complete commitment, however, not a silly one. Wenger reminded us how his team missed 45 minutes at Bayern Munich and they now have a chance to put it right. He told us not to fool ourselves, since there the odds are only at 1 or 2%, but you never know. The Frenchman added that the team has to focus on the quality of its performance as well as commitment. He reminded us that they finished top of the group, and even though PSG finished second, they managed to defeat Barcelona 4-0. Wenger thinks that that happened because Barcelona completely missed the game. That is why Arsenal have to do their best.
Wenger regrets the negativity that is currently surrounding the Gunners after their 3-1 defeat to Liverpool and called on his team to play with the “handbrake off” against Munich since they have nothing more to lose. He concluded by stating that it is in a tough climate at the moment since they have just lost at Liverpool, so it is quite tense.
