Football Tips 05.11 – Champions League

Ajax – Barcelona After losing for the second time in a row in the Liga BBVA, Barcelona wants to get back on the winning track, and they have the chance to do so in the game against Ajax. The Dutch side won their last three games in all competitions and is in good form. The Baracelona players would want to make their fans happy and a win here would almost guarantee them a place in the 1/8, plus they’ll have to fight PSG for the first spot in the group, so a good result here is a must. In the last match between the two sides Barcelona won comfortably 3-1 and I expect the same to happen here, even though Ajax have pulled upsets in the past. Tip: 2 @ 1.36 Athletic Bilbao – Porto The last team in the group Athletic Bilbao plays against the leaders Porto. Bilbao was in a crisis, but the win against Sevillia last weekend gave them some hope. Porto is one point behind Benfica in the domestic league, but their impressive Champions League run has put them in the first place in their group. The last five home matches of the Spanish team have finished with fewer than 2.5 goals, while Porto’s three out of five away matches haven’t had more than 2.5 goals in them, which makes me think this will be another one. Athletic’s defense isn’t so bad, but their attack lacks penetration and even though Porto have been scoring a lot lately, Bilbao should stop their attacking force. Tip: Under 2.5 goals @ 1.75 Manchester City – CSKA Moscow Both teams still don’t have a win in the group stages and while it was expected from CSKA Moscow, for Manchester City that’s a big shock. The current English champions are in need of points and this game is the perfect opportunity for them. The win in the Manchester Derby last Sunday should motivate the team after some recent bad performances. CSKA Moscow are on a completely different side – they lost at home against Zenit and now the gap between the two teams is seven points. It won’t be an easy game for City, that’s for sure, but they need to win in order to have a better chance of progressing to the 1/8 finals, so my bet’s on them. Tip: 1 @ 1.25 Maribor – Chelsea After a hard game against QPR during the weekend Chelsea will probably rest some of their first team regulars against Slovenian side Maribor. The last game between those two teams finished in a humiliating 6-0 defeat for Maribor, but this time I expect Chelsea to switch to a lower gear and not win by such a big margin. Didier Drogba scored in that game and also against Manchester United and Shrewsbury. After a tough start to his return to Stamford Bridge, mostly because of his injury and physical condition, Drogba looks to be back to top form. Because of Diego Costa’s hamstring problem I think that the Spanish striker will be rested and Drogba will start the game and even score a goal. Tip: Drogba to score anytime @ 2.00 Paris SG – APOEL Even though APOEL are last in the group, they certainly aren’t pushovers. The team from Cyprus drew at home against Ajax and lost 1-0 both to PSG and Barcelona, but they weren’t humiliated like many people expected. PSG are the group leaders, but overall they don’t always give everything against weaker sides in the Champions League. All of APOEL’s games in Europe were under 2.5 goals, and PSG’s record in this category is two out of three, so I think there’s a pretty good chance of this game also being low on goals. Tip: Under 2.5 goals @ 2.30 Sporting – Schalke 04 Last time these two teams met we saw an amazing game full of goals and comebacks, which Schalke managed to win with a dubious penalty in the 93′ minute. After Di Matteo was appointed as manager The Royal Blues have won three and lost one game, which was a big improvement to their previous form. Last week Sporting lost surprisingly to Guimaraes and are now sixth in the Portugal division. The odds for Schalke are surprisingly good, and given both teams recent form I think the German side have better chances of winning this match. Just to be safe though I would use the draw no bet option. Tip: 2 DNB @ 2.75
